The Web & I
Love At First Site
One fine afternoon back in 1999, I got hold of a copy of Microsoft FrontPage, had it installed into my PC, and built a web site to promote my then on-site computer service business in Malaysia. It was my very first attempt in building web site, the final product was really not worth mentioning. I had eventually ceased the computer service business, but continued to love the world wide web till today.
My first official job as web designer came in 2000, offered by a public listed dotcom in Singapore. At that time, I had only two items in my portfolio, which I considered "presentable" - a wine shop web site I had co-developed with a friend, and a five-minutes Flash movie. Little would I expect that I could get the job. Till today, I still think it was a gift from God.
Working in the dotcom environment has provided me a good learning ground. I also had the pleasure of working with some fine corporations on their web site projects. To name a few:
- Comfort Transportation (now Comfort Delgro)
- Maybank
- Aberdeen Asia
- Thomson Medical Centre
- Tanjong Pagar Town Council
- Raffles Town Club
- City Development Limited
- Bengawan Solo
Lost and Found
One and a half years later, in 2001, the company fell victim of the dotcom bust. Together with several hundreds more, I had to move on. This time, I was equipped with more experiences and a bag full of skills; very quickly, I got myself a position in a Singapore-based interactive agency as the senior producer (remind me to tell you the story of how I got into this company).
Although smaller in size, this company gave me exposures to different areas of the industry, which included project and client management. I got to work with finer clients such as:
- Apple Singapore (marketing campaigns and regional site maintenance)
- Central Narcotics Bureau (web site production)
- Reed Exhibition (Asian Aerospace 2004 official site)
- NUS (INTRO web site)
I stayed with this company for one and a half year, before I told myself, "It's about time to move on..."
Hence, ladies and gentlemen, here I am!
